We have been publishing interviews with all the winners from year’s Work Avenue Business Awards – giving you the chance to hear about their achievements, business insights and the support they have received from Work Avenue.
We end the series with our Young Entrepreneur(s) of the Year, Dan Kraines and Scott Hircombe of marketing agency Parameter.
Can you tell us a little bit about Parameter and what you do?
Parameter is a digital marketing agency that specialises in content and social media. We manage social media pages, run paid social advertising and produce content of all different scopes and sizes.
We’re passionate about championing visionary brands, making a positive impact on consumers’ lives both now and for the future.
How did the company form?
Dan (who is also a DJ) originally set up the business during the pandemic, very much as a way to keep an income coming in over lockdown.
It started to gain clients and, after meeting through the Jewish community, we began to work on a few projects together.
Slowly we worked together more and more – and saw a vision of what we could build. After about a year, Scott came on board full time and we established the business fully with us as 50/50 co-founders.
How has the business grown?
In a physical sense, we have moved from freelancing in our bedrooms to working from free office spaces to, last year, getting our own offices in Holborn.
We’ve also recruited in a number of positions.
It’s a very exciting time.
How long have you been supported by Work Avenue?
Work Avenue have been there from the very start – when Dan took that leap of faith – and have massively helped us get to where we are today.Originally, we met with Jo Sadie (Work Avenue Head of Business) on a monthly basis to give the business a firm footing and structure, guide us through the different processes, help us identify our target clients and show us what we can achieve.
Even now, we still meet on a quarterly basis to check in and get support when we need it. We call Jo our “work mum”, as she always gives great advice and, when necessary, will really challenge and push us.
Jo and everyone at Work Avenue just want to see us succeed, and that is really special.
How did you feel winning the Work Avenue Award?
The recognition was awesome and it was a full circle moment. We have a real sense of pride.
We had nominated ourselves previously and, looking back, we weren’t ready and our business wasn’t at the right stage.
So to win this year felt like we had really earned it – especially as the competition we faced was very tough.
Also, it was our last chance to win in the young category as Dan is turning 30!
What would be your one tip for any other business owners reading this?
Persistence is the key!
Keep focussed and keep going… and success will follow.
