Response to the Chancellor’s Spring Statement

The Chancellor announced £1 billion for employment support in yesterday’s Spring Statement.

This measure, aimed at helping people back into work, is backed by another £400 million for job centres.

Right now demand for our services is higher than ever, with more people in the community turning to us to help them find work.

It is vital that these funds translate into real opportunities and good long-term jobs, rather than simply being a means to justify welfare cuts.

For small businesses and entrepreneurs, there was little to celebrate in the Spring Statement.

With rising costs – including the recent increase in National Insurance contributions for some businesses – many were hoping for more direct support.

However beyond some tax changes – such as the continued rollout of Making Tax Digital and stricter HMRC compliance measures – there was little mention at all of small businesses or entrepreneurs. We hope this will be addressed in future announcements from the Chancellor.
