On Wednesday 2 July at 9.30am, we will be hosting a webinar looking at how effective time management can help you make the most of your job search.
This one-hour session will provide you with practical, actionable strategies to structure your job seeking activities, prioritise key tasks and maintain focus in order to achieve success.
You can book here: https://theworkavenue.org.uk/event/timemanagementjobseeking/
As a preview to that discussion, Work Avenue employment adviser Richard Linden shares his experiences and 10 top tips below:
Dedicate specific hours each day to your job-seeking activities, just as you would have set hours in a regular job. Consistency really is the key to progress.
Identify your most important tasks daily, that are needed to help you find work, and then be disciplined about eliminating all those distractions or unimportant activities that consume your time. Learn to say “no” to non-essential requests from others.
Set up a dedicated, distraction-free environment. Keep it clean and organised to stay focused. If home is too busy, consider using a library or coffee shop – or if you’re in London then our London Wohl Enterprise Hub in Finchley Central (just book with us in advance).
Evaluate what you’ve achieved at the end of each day. Ensure your efforts are focused on high-impact tasks (quality over quantity) rather than just being busy.
Begin each day by listing your tasks, ranking them by importance. Break larger tasks into smaller, manageable steps. Always be prepared to adjust your list for urgent matters, for example last min interview prep.
Structure your schedule with dedicated blocks for different activities like job searching, applying for roles, networking and interview preparation. A consistent routine can significantly boost efficiency.
Ensure your short-term and long-term job-seeking goals are SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Reward yourself for hitting milestones to maintain motivation.
Don’t neglect your own physical and mental health. Integrate regular breaks, healthy eating, and physical activity into your routine. This helps prevent burnout, boosts energy, reduces stress, and improves wellbeing.
