Starting in the office in December, to ensure eveything is in place for opening of the residential home in the spring.

Main purpose

  • To take overall responsibility for the smooth running of the care home and the general well-being of the clients and staff. Ensuring that all company policies, and procedures, legal requirements are adhered to within the defined timescales.
  • To contribute to the management of a residential home based in Hackney, to meet the highest quality standards of Misgav and the requirements of the relevant local authority’s Residential Homes Inspection Unit, ensuring that the resident’s needs are met.
  • To give strong, clear and informed leadership to staff, enabling them to support and empower residents to develop skills that ensure they experience the highest possible quality of life.
  • To take responsibility for the efficient and effective operation of the home, ensuring that all systems, policies and procedures of Misgav are adhered to.

Main duties and Responsibilities:  

Care

• To create and maintain good relationships with residents to ensure that they are fully involved in all decision-making processes that affect their lives.

• To take a lead role in the assessment and review of all aspects of residents’ lives through the Individual Planning Process. This will include risk management.

• To take a lead role in the identification of residents’ needs and in formulating strategies to meet those needs in areas including recreation, leisure, home, medical, cultural and dietary.

• To take a lead role in empowering residents to enable them to achieve self-advocacy and independence through the development of their learning potential.

• To promote non-aggressive and non-abusive behaviour and manage challenging behaviour within policy guidelines.

• To play a lead role in ensuring that all religious and cultural needs of residents, including dietary requirements, are met.

• Report any ill health amongst Service Users and make requests for GP/Professional visits where necessary

• Ensure that the Service Users Care Plans are completed and maintained in conjunction with Service Users, Relatives and other Health Care Professions, and in accordance with NMC guidelines & Company policy

• Assess social and health care needs of new Service Users and maintain ongoing assessment and review of all other Service Users

• Administer prescribed medicines and document the same in accordance with the Company’s procedure and NMC guidelines

• Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with Service Users personal and financial affairs, and avoid abuse of the privileged relationship which exists with Service Users

Staff 

• To provide leadership and role modelling to ensure the highest level of good practice and appropriate service delivery through the staff team.

• Endeavour to fill any Staff vacancy by contacting the H.R. Department at Head Office. Interview and select suitable personnel (The positions are to be offered within the normal terms of employment in operation at the Care Home at the time).

• Manage personnel records to adhere to company policy and requirements under the Care Standards Act 2000. Manage same records adhering to the General Data Protection Regulations. To provide support and supervision to day and night staff, maintaining records at an appropriate level.

• Continually assess and supervise the work of Staff to ensure consistently high standards and efficient running of the home while creating an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of the residents.

• To support individual professional development through the Staff Development and Appraisal scheme.

• To establish and maintain effective working relationships with homes staff, staff in other parts of the organisation and those working for other agencies supporting residents’ placements.

• To manage and support volunteers working within the home.

Management

• To contribute to and where necessary take responsibility for the creation and maintenance of a secure and safe living and working environment within the home and through good risk management, enable residents to take measured risks both within and outside the home environment. 

• To contribute to the development of new policies and practices within the home and to maintain systems for evaluating the effectiveness of any changes.

• To take responsibility for aspects of budget management and the management of residents’ finances, taking into account DSS guidelines where necessary.

• To take responsibility for stock control and the ordering of supplies.

• To prepare and maintain accurately records relating to individual residents, home systems, monitoring, management information etc., ensuring the maintenance of appropriate levels of confidentiality. 

• To ensure, that all equipment, furnishings, transport and the fabric of the home is adequately maintained and in a safe and serviceable condition through vigilance and liaison with appropriate departments.

• To contribute to and oversee where necessary all relevant group, shift and handover meetings, discussions and the dissemination of information to ensure the continuity and quality of service provision.

• To undertake on-call duties.

Personal development

• To implement and participate in the Staff Development and Appraisal Scheme.

• To keep abreast of developments and trends within the care profession and disseminate to staff and colleagues accordingly.

• To undertake any training necessary to improve knowledge and performance.

• To undertake placements in various departments or homes as required in order to develop skills and knowledge appropriate to the changing needs of the resident group

Communication

• To ensure that good relationships with residents’ families and advocates are developed and maintained and that they are consulted and supported through any changes and/or developments that may affect the lives of residents.

• To support residents in developing positive relationships with relatives, other residents, professionals and staff.

• Participate in Staff and Service User meetings as required

• Maintain effective communications with regional manager 

• Establish and maintain good communication with Service Users, Staff, and Relatives and with the multidisciplinary team.  

• Provide administrative support when required

• Report any changes in Service Users physical or emotional condition to any professionals needing to know

• Able to work in a team environment, is professional and respectful towards others.

• Works effectively within a team, contributing to good team spirit.

• Listens openly and positively to others and provides support within the team.

General

• To work within the context of all Misgav policies and procedures.

• It is the duty of every employee to take all reasonable care of the health and safety of her/himself and of other persons who may be affected by her/his acts or omissions. As regards to any duty or requirement imposed upon Misgav by or under any of the relevant statutory provisions, to co-operate with Misgav as far as is necessary to enable that duty or requirement to be performed or complied with. To report to the Health and Safety Manager either serious risks or your concerns over safety issues.

• To maintain a standard of dress that is appropriate to the role and in keeping with the organisation’s dress code.

Human Resources (HR)

• Adhere to and implement all HR policies and procedures

• Endeavour to fill any Staff vacancy through advertising.  

• Interview for new Staff Members as and when required, in line with the Company’s Recruitment policy

• Maintain correct records of working hours of all Staff Members

• Monitor and control sickness absence in line with Company policy

• Ensure all Staff Members are aware of the Company’s Whistle blowing procedure

• implement and manage the Company’s Discipline and Dismissal policies and procedures, and Grievance policies and procedures in conjunction with the Regional Manager

• Conduct formal supervision and appraisal of Staff Members in line with Company policy and with ongoing informal assessment of the work of Staff Members to ensure consistently high standards

• Organise workload by forward planning off duty to ensure that there is sufficient Staff cover and deal with problems where necessary

• In the absence of the Administrator, ensure continuity of the Payroll 

Health & Safety

• Report immediately to the Person in Charge any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Service Users, colleague, self or another

• Understand, and ensure the implementation of Misgav’s Health & Safety policy and Emergency and Fire procedures

• Report to the Handyperson any faulty appliances, damaged furniture or equipment or any potential hazard

• Promote safe working practice in the Care Centre

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Good general standard of education.
  • QCF / NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care or above
  • Experience in this field is desirable.
  • Satisfactory DBS and check against the DBS barred list

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience of working with people who have learning disabilities or physical disabilities.
  • Demonstrable work experience.

Knowledge and skills

  • Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenging behaviours effectively and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Empathy and patience to understand and support service users and their families
  • Able to give presentations to large groups of people, for example, students or colleague professionals.
  • Verbal and written communication skills are valuable to this role.
  • Ability to research and understand current laws and regulations.

Training

  • A willingness to undergo any further training or development as, or when, appropriate.
