West London Synagogue (WLS) is Britain’s oldest and foremost Reform Synagogue with an international reputation for excellence. We have approximately 2,800 members and provide a wide range of formal and informal Shabbat and festival services as well as a religion school, study and learning opportunities and youth activities.

WLS is a beautiful building that houses our grade 2 listed sanctuary, staff offices, a number of function spaces and an international school. We hold several events on site including religious festivals, concerts, life cycle celebrations, community dinners, book launches, film screenings and various school related events. Each event varies in size from a handful of people to three thousand on High Holy Day celebrations. It will be your job to ensure that our building is kept maintained to a high standard. You will take the lead on all aspects of health and safety and compliance across the site. You will also need to ensure that every event is set up and cleared away exactly as required.

The Facilities and compliance Manager will report to the Director of Operations.

Main purpose of the Role:

  • To lead on ensuring the effective maintenance, repairs of the entire West London Synagogue site, including Halcyon School.
  • To ensure all maintenance, repairs and compliance works are completed on time and to a high standard.
  • Ensure the building meets all legal compliance regulations.
  • To promote a safe and secure environment for everyone using the building, ensuring that all site specific Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.
  • Ensuring the building is prepared and ready for all events, with the relevant set up and equipment.
  • To provide advice and guidance on Health and Safety matters.
  • Monitor, measure and report on Health and Safety performance including the auditing and inspection of internal and external learning and workplace environments.
  • Manage a small team of facilities staff.
  • To ensure that all site specific Health and Safety requirements are adhered to.

Person Specification (Essential):

  • Numerate and Literate to the equivalent of GCSE in English and Maths
  • Evidence of training appropriate to the role
  • At least 4 years’ experience Working in a similar role
  • Managing staff
  • Project planning
  • Knowledge of premises management regulations including health and safety requirements
  • High level of IT literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook & other related computer packages
  • Able to perform a variety of general repairs and DIY tasks to a high level
  • Highly organised, problem solver, creative, innovative
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate a conscientious and dedicated attitude
  • Ability to work on own initiative and demonstrate a commitment to team working
  • Reliable, dependable, flexible and adaptable
  • Tact, diplomacy and discretion
  • Organised, methodical and thorough, with an eye for detail
  • Awareness of GDPR
