ABOUT THE ROLE

To lead the creation of engaging digital content that showcases the breadth and impact of the United Synagogue's work, supports organisational priorities and inspires greater engagement with Jewish life and our communities. The role will identify, develop and deliver high-quality content across a range of digital platforms, helping to inform, educate and inspire audiences through authentic storytelling.

Acting as an internal journalist, the postholder will proactively seek out stories, build relationships across departments and communities, and create content that raises awareness of the United Synagogue's activities, services and impact.

Working across the charity, the postholder will partner with colleagues from our communities, Tribe, Chesed, Education, Heritage, Inclusion and other departments to uncover compelling stories and transform them into engaging digital content. The role offers a unique opportunity to shine a spotlight on the people, programmes and initiatives that bring Jewish life to life across the United Synagogue.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Content Creation

• Create engaging digital content for a range of online platforms, including reels, videos, interviews and other short-form formats, tailored to different audiences and emerging trends. 

• Capture and edit content using current content creation tools and platforms. 

• Develop content that informs, educates and entertains audiences while supporting the charity’s objectives. 

• Ensure all content reflects the United Synagogue's values, tone of voice and brand guidelines.

Storytelling & Content Identification

• Proactively identify stories from across the charity's departments, communities and initiatives.

• Build strong relationships with stakeholders to uncover opportunities for compelling content.

• Attend events and activities to capture real-time content and create engaging stories.

• Seek out people, projects and moments that illustrate the impact of the United Synagogue's work.

Social Media & Digital Engagement

• Support the planning and delivery of content calendars and digital campaigns. 

• Monitor content performance and use insights to improve future content. 

• Keep up to date with emerging digital trends, platform developments and content formats. 

• Help maximise the reach and engagement of content across the United Synagogue's digital channels.

Collaboration

• Work closely with colleagues across the United Synagogue and its divisions to support communications needs.

• Collaborate with the wider Marketing & Communications team on campaigns and projects.

• Support content requirements for key initiatives and events.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

Knowledge & Experience

• Experience creating engaging content for digital and social media platforms. 

• Experience filming and editing short-form video content. 

• Experience creating content using platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and TikTok. 

• Ability to identify compelling stories and translate them into engaging content. 

• Understanding of digital content trends and audience engagement.

Skills & Attributes

• Excellent storytelling ability. 

• Strong creativity and visual awareness. 

• Self-starter with the ability to generate ideas and work independently. 

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. 

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. 

• Strong interpersonal skills and confidence interviewing people and building relationships. 

• Flexible and willing to work occasionally outside normal office hours to attend events.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of the Jewish community and Jewish life. 

• Experience working in a charity, community or membership organisation. 

• Photography skills. 

• Experience using analytics tools to evaluate content performance. 

• Experience working with WordPress or other content management systems.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

After 12 months the successful candidate will have:

• Established a regular pipeline of engaging stories from across the charity.

• Increased the volume and quality of original digital content being produced.

• Helped raise awareness of the breadth of United Synagogue activity and impact.

• Created content that drives engagement, reach and audience growth.

• Built strong relationships with departments, communities and stakeholders across the charity.
