A UK-wide charity providing free, practical support to members of the Jewish community facing complex life challenges. We help people understand their rights, explore their options and move forward with confidence and dignity.

Purpose of the Role

The Community Engagement & Events Coordinator will play a vital role in helping Paperweight build and maintain strong relationships with key community partners and arrange events to raise the Charity’s profile.

Key Responsibilities

Community Engagement

• Build and maintain relationships with synagogues, schools, communal organisations, charities, professionals and local community groups, generating outreach across the Jewish community

• Help to raise awareness by arranging meetings, visits, presentations and other events with such organisations to cement relationships and encourage appropriate referrals, new caseworkers and especially donors.

• Build strong relationships with our caseworkers within their specific communities with a view to being able to appoint ‘ambassadors ‘when it comes to fundraising / Paperweight Shabbat etc.

• Creating regular engaging social media video and audio content

• Develop external local and national community engagement opportunities, such as local authorities etc. 

• Engage with the 20-40 age group to create a Paperweight Young Professionals’ Group that will put on events (e.g. fundraising) and attract the next generation to become involved in Paperweight 

• Organise annual campaign asking communities to include Paperweight in their Yom Kippur Appeals

Events Coordination

• Planning and delivery of Paperweight events, including community events, awareness sessions, volunteer events, fundraising events and stakeholder briefings, such as (for example only) speaker or panel evenings, professional breakfasts etc. 

• Be actively involved in any major Charity fund-raising events or initiative such as crowd funding campaigns

• Coordinate event logistics including budgeting, invitations, guest lists, venues, catering, materials, signage and follow-up. 

• Support and help organise attendance at external community events, fairs, conferences and networking opportunities eg by preparing event materials, packs, presentations and promotional content. 

• Ensure collection of contact details of event attendees and that events are followed up properly, including thank-you emails, photos, feedback and next steps. 

• Monitor social media activity and help respond to comments or messages where appropriate. 

Administration and Coordination

• Maintain accurate records of community contacts, events, meetings onto our CRM.

• Support the organisation and updating of contact lists and mailing lists.

• Office support such as preparing for meetings taking place in the office.

You may on occasion be required to undertake other reasonable duties out of hours, within the scope of the role and your skills and experience, as requested by the senior management team.

Person Specification

Essential

• A professional and holistic approach to your work

• Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail. 

• Warm, confident and professional communication skills. 

• Ability to build relationships with a wide range of people. 

• Good written English and the ability to write clearly, sensitively and creatively. 

• Comfortable using social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp. 

• Strong IT skills

• Good time management skills and ability to manage several tasks at once and work to deadlines. 

• Discreet, reliable and sensitive to confidentiality. 

• A genuine interest in Paperweight’s work and the communities we support. 

• Flexible, proactive and willing to get involved in a variety of tasks. 

Desirable

• Experience in community engagement, events, communications or charity work. 

• Experience creating social media content. 

• Familiarity with Canva, AI or other simple design tools. 

• Understanding of the UK Jewish community. 

• Experience working with volunteers, donors or community partners. 

• Experience supporting fundraising or awareness campaigns.
