Careers Adviser (Freelance) – Gateways

Hours: Initially 2 days a week, term time, possibly spread over 3 or 4 days but subject to discussion 

Start Date: September 2024

Background: Gateways is committed to providing all students with plans to progress their careers and working lives after their time at Gateways is completed. Our philosophy is to build on our students’ unique strengths, raise their aspirations, and offer them bespoke and high-quality careers advice, guidance, and opportunities to enable them to thrive in the wider community after they leave Gateways. 

Key Skills Required:

• Level 6 qualification in careers guidance (CIAG)

• Experience working with young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH)

• Ability to provide careers advice and guidance in a one-to-one setting or group workshop to support students with their career aspirations

• Can engage with and inspire young people as well as their parents/careers

• Ability to motivate and build rapport with students, parents, colleagues, and external agencies.

• Knowledge of education, employment, training, and personal development opportunities available for young people/labour market information

• Demonstrate professional commitment to children's rights, equal opportunities, diversity, safeguarding, and confidentiality

• Ability to deliver bespoke careers information, advice, and guidance to meet the needs of Gateways students

• Support Gateways in achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks

• Innovate and develop the careers offer to all students and Gateways

• Develop partnerships with local training providers to ensure students make informed decisions on leaving Gateways

• Establish connections with suitable work experience providers

• Track the ongoing destination of all leavers

• Support students in completing college, university or job applications 

• Record all student interactions in line with Gateways policies

• Creative and able to think outside the box

• Motivated and able to use own initiative and work alone as necessary

• Able to multitask on a range of projects

• A confident and friendly manner

• Committed to Gateways’ mission and aims Background

All candidates invited to interview will be required to bring the following documentation:

• If applicable, proof of eligibility to work/reside in the UK.
