I took a career break for a few years to focus on being a mum. Recently, I decided I wanted to return to work as the cost-of-living crisis was impacting our household. However, my office-based skills were no longer up-to-date, I lacked confidence and wasn’t sure where or how to start the process of finding employment.
A friend told me about Work Avenue, and I’m so grateful to her. Talking to the team there put my mind at ease and gave me confidence to kick-start my job search with purpose. My employment adviser helped me to identify my talents and transferable skills. He also shared some great tips for putting together a CV, something I hadn’t done in ages! I scoured the jobs board and found one role that really appealed as I had some prior experience, while affording me the flexibility to fulfil my family commitments. To boost my chances, I had a practice interview in the morning – it was all quite last minute – and I was well prepared for the interview that very evening. I got the job!!!

I’m now really enjoying my job, learning new things and gaining confidence. I really appreciate the support, patience and kindness that Work Avenue shared as their actions helped me to embrace my role and feel more secure about my future prospects.
