Alison has worked for many years in legacy fundraising. In the summer of 2021 she decided that the time was right to launch her own consultancy, which would allow her to harness her expertise and passion to enable her to help charities with this specialised area of fundraising. Having always been an employee, the process of becoming self-employed was daunting so Alison turned to Work Avenue for help.
Alison met with Business Adviser Jo Sadie, and together they discussed marketing ideas and strategy; Alison’s company, Legacy Impact, was launched soon after. Alison says the business journey so far has not only been successful but also hugely rewarding. She is already busy working with a number of high-profile community charities, creating bespoke fundraising plans.
“I have extensive experience and knowledge of legacy fundraising. However, I have never been self-employed before and so the process of starting my own business has been a steep learning curve, one that I am embracing. Nevertheless, there are times when a helpful ear and someone to bounce ideas off of is very useful. Knowing Jo is always there for support and advice is amazing. I come away from our conversations energised.
“It isn’t just the one to one sessions that are a great resource. So, too, are the Work Avenue workshops.
It’s fantastic to have friendly and accessible experts sharing their time and experiences.
I always find that the speakers are interesting, and skilled in ensuring that their content is relevant and personalised to my situation. I have also outsourced some of my marketing to Work Avenue’s social enterprise – WAGE. I was delighted with the quality of work, and feel that I have made another important business connection.
“Thanks to Work Avenue, I feel excited and focused on further developing Legacy Impact. I’d thoroughly recommend approaching Work Avenue to anyone considering starting a business.”
