More than 40 women have completed Work Avenue’s Career Reboot 2026 programme – gaining new skills, increased confidence and practical support as they take the next steps in returning to work or changing career.
Before the four-month course had even ended, five participants had secured new jobs with four others starting the process of launching their own businesses.
With Work Avenue’s continued support, the goal is for everyone on the programme to return to the workplace in the months ahead, with many already actively interviewing for roles.
Work Avenue’s Head of Employment, Melanie Pearl, said: “Career Reboot for Women is about much more than helping people find a job. It’s about rebuilding confidence, developing practical skills, creating supportive networks and helping women believe in what they can achieve.”
The programme – which was supported by the Leo and Betty Gruss Charitable Trust – concluded with a celebratory brunch, bringing together participants, the Work Avenue team and guest speakers to recognise everything the women had achieved over the previous four months.
The morning was opened by Work Avenue CEO Debbie Lebrett before a panel discussion chaired by Melanie Pearl. Karen North, from the Leo and Betty Gruss Charitable Trust, spoke about their commitment to helping people develop new skills and opportunities, while previous Career Reboot participants Heidi Shulman and Daniella Boyd shared their journeys from the programme into employment.
Work Avenue Recruitment Coordinator Tali Lewin highlighted current vacancies and gave practical advice on making successful applications, while JVN’s Rachelle Lazarus explained how volunteering can help build experience and provide structure while looking for work.
Melanie said: “The atmosphere at the brunch reflected just how far everyone had come. It was wonderful to see a room full of women who had built genuine friendships and were encouraging one another as they took the next steps in their employment journeys. “We’re incredibly proud of everything these women have achieved and look forward to continuing to support them as they move forward in their careers.”
During the brunch, participants were presented with certificates recognising their development throughout the course.
Speaking afterwards, one of the women said: “This programme was excellent and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have been part of it.”
Another added: “When so many avenues and doors seem closed, it was great to learn how to reboot – and especially good that women and our specific needs were given this attention.”
