Main duties:

1. To assist in the responsibility for providing a high quality of teaching and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children. 

2. To communicate effectively and work in close partnership with parents/carers, keeping them informed about the Nursery and its curriculum; exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging their involvement.  Share information with any shared care nurseries. 

3. To ensure that the Nursery is a safe environment for children, staff others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.  

4. To ensure that each child is working towards Early Learning Goals; to monitor the effectiveness of the planning.  

5. To support the setting up and tidying away of equipment and resources at the beginning and end of each day. 

6. To contribute to the Nursery policies and procedures, especially those relating to equal opportunities, safeguarding and confidentiality. 

7. To participate in the daily programme of the Nursery and Lunch Club activities in addition to any events (i.e. parent shows, trips.)  

8. To observe and record information so that children’s attainment and progress are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures and ensuring each child’s needs are recognised and met.  

9. To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register, accident and incident book.  

10. To attend all staff meetings. 

 11. To ensure safe supervision of children at all times ensuring all safety procedures are followed.  

12. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the management committee, in accordance with the Pre-school learning alliance.

 The successful candidate for this position will be an enthusiastic, energetic, and dedicated individual who is eager to take advantage of this exciting opportunity. They will demonstrate a genuine passion for providing the highest standards in quality childcare and have a thorough understanding of the need to provide a stimulating, caring, and consistent environment for the children at the Nursery.

In addition to strong communication skills and team-working abilities, the successful candidate will fulfill all of the Essential criteria and as much of the Desirable criteria as possible, as listed below.

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to undertake further training and gain qualifications as deemed necessary.
  • A good level of education.
  • Level 2 childcare qualification or above (Desirable)
  • Current Paediatric first aid qualification (Desirable)
  • Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience of working with children aged 0-5 years, either voluntary or paid.
  • Understanding of children’s behaviour.
  • Understanding the needs of children and their families.
  • Must be able to pass an enhanced CRB check.

Skills:

  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team or individually as required.
  • Self-motivation.
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with children and their parents.
  • Good communication with children and their parents.
  • An ability to manage children’s behaviour in accordance with nursery policy and in relation to the child’s age and abilities.
  • An understanding of the importance of keeping children safe and protected within the nursery environment.
  • Must be able to record information accurately.
  • Be aware of the importance of working within set policies.
  • Must be able to adapt to be involved with a variety of tasks.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience in a nursery setting (Desirable)
  • An understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage and Every Child Matters (Desirable)
  • An understanding of how to implement planning and observations for children (Desirable)
  • Experience of communicating with parents about their children’s needs and progress (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of Key Person systems (Desirable)
  • Creativity and the ability to adapt an activity to better suit the children taking part (Desirable)
  • The ability to lead a small group of children taking part in an activity (Desirable)
  • ICT skills (Desirable)

  • A genuine enjoyment of being and working with children.
  • Must possess a caring, warm, and patient manner.
  • Respect for people of different cultures, race, ability, gender, and religion.
