Work Avenue responds to troubling new jobs data
A number of reports over the last two weeks confirm what many already feel… finding a job is tougher now than it has been for years.
New Bank of England data shows companies are cutting jobs at the fastest pace since 2021 – when the UK was still in Covid lockdown – and employers expect these cutbacks to continue.
Meanwhile, the Resolution Foundation estimates that the unemployment rate will soon reach 5% – its highest level since the pandemic.
Those looking for their first job, or seeking to return to the workplace in a junior role, are finding it especially difficult. The latest UK job market report from Adzuna found that vacancies for entry-level positions have dropped to their lowest point in five years – and are down by more than a third since November 2022.
Contributing factors include uncertainty around a trade war with the USA, higher business costs – especially the rise in National Insurance contributions for employers – and an acceleration in the use of AI.
At Work Avenue, the community’s leading employment and business support organisation, we want you to know that help is at hand and there are still many good jobs available, at all seniority and salary levels.
We offer one-to-one support and guidance, practical workshops, CV assistance, interview preparation and networking opportunities.
Our dedicated advisors work closely with individuals to identify their skills, match them to suitable opportunities, and provide ongoing guidance to help them succeed – not just throughout the job search but once in work too.
We have an online Jobs Boards – with accompanying WhatsApp and Facebook groups – that currently has more than 80 vacant positions in the community and beyond.
Work Avenue CEO Debbie Lebrett said: “A number of factors have combined to make this a very tough jobs market, with fewer roles and more competition, and that is reflected for those in our community too.
“That is why our mission at Work Avenue is more vital than ever. Each year, we help thousands of people develop their skills, build their confidence, work on their CVs and interview preparation, and ultimately find rewarding jobs which they then thrive in.”
