The Work Avenue Business Awards are our chance to celebrate the incredible hard work, dedication and successes of the community’s businesses, charities and entrepreneurs.
Covering all sectors, shapes and sizes of business – this year we received a record 110 nominations.
Our independent panel of judges selected five winners from all those incredible entries and we celebrated at a ceremony in our WE Hub shared workspace this summer.
Now, over the next two months, we will be bringing you interviews with each of the winners – talking about their achievements, business insights and the support they have received from Work Avenue. We start the series with Stephen Moses of Zenplans, named Business of the Year.
Can you tell us a little bit about Zenplans and what you do?
We are a software company that works with accountants, financial planners and solicitors. Our product helps their clients to organise and manage all of their estate information, so that everything important can be easily accessed by their beneficiaries in case of emergency.
When did you start Zenplans?
We started in October 2019, so are just about to celebrate our fifth anniversary. The idea sprang from a discussion with my dad about his Will and how I would know what exists in his estate, financial and beyond, and how I would then access the information needed to manage it all.
I started to think about creating a platform that would make it much easier for people to keep on top of all their important information during their lifetime, and also act as a way for them to share it securely and selectively with those closest to them to make estate administration easier.
How have Work Avenue supported you?
When I first approached Work Avenue, I had little more than an idea.
The one-to-one advice and support I have received, as well as their range of workshops, helped me to get it off the ground and navigate key business challenges since.
Zenplans is based out of the vibrant office space offered by Work Avenue at WE Hub, where I’ve also been able to find partners to help build my business in a number of different ways – from copywriters through to future investors.
How has the business grown over the last five years?
Zenplans has grown from me and an idea to a team of eight people – five in the UK and three in Israel – working with some of the top companies in our target market.
How did you feel when winning the Work Avenue Business Award?
Winning the award felt like a significant milestone had been reached. We still have far to go as a business – but it’s a nice feeling to pause and realise that I came to Work Avenue with just an idea, and a few years later we’ve been recognised as the Business of the Year!
What would be your one tip for any other business owners reading this?
Many businesses take time to build, so as long as you’ve got at least some positive signals from your market… then my tip would be to keep going!
