Youth Directors – Seed

Hours: 30 hours combined, including Shabbos and evening work. One year fixed term contract.

Seed has been working with young families for more than 40 years, arranging dynamic and creating programmes for children and adults. The Seed Shul was in-part in an outgrowth of this process and success. The role would combine working with the youth in the Shul and other Seed youth programmes – in short to grow the youth arm of Seed.

The Role:

The creation and implementation of programmes that cultivate engagement and growth. The Youth Directors will provide a mentoring role and a sense of participation, vibe and buzz. There will also be a recruiting element – to be the youth face of Seed events where applicable to then recruit those youth into your regular Seed Youth programming. It is especially hoped that our youth will graduate in their Jewish engagement, Jewish learning and ultimately want to study in Israel after school.

Specific Duties:

Shabbos/Yom Tov

  • To attend and develop youth services and provision on Shabbos morning.
  • To create dynamic programmes around and on Yamim Tovim.
  • To host Shabboses and Yom Tov.
  • Any other Shabbos programmes e.g. Seudah Shlishis programme.

Weekday Programming

  • Regular youth hub (ideally weekly)
  • Learning groups/chavrusas as and when viable
  • Meet with barmitzvah boy/batmitzvah and create kesher that leads into programmes.

Special Programming

  • Create dynamic programmes: termly key fun general events e.g. Purim and Chanukah events
  • Shabbaton/trip away
  • Termly/annual visit to a school(s) for lunch & learn/session if relevant

Specific Courses

  • To create a Barmitzvah programme (fathers and sons) to run alongside the Barmitzvah Israel trip
  • To be part of and attend the Links programme and develop connection with the girls
  • Seek to develop a regular year 5-6 programme (with an educator attending too).

Collaboration with other Seed events and Educators

A key element of this role is interaction with Seed in general beyond the shul. This involves:

  • Attending Seed events that have teens at them. In some cases creating parallel youth programmes to and during Seed events as and where applicable (e.g. youth programme during
  • Weekend Away, during Simchas Torah lunch, during an in-house Shabbaton if teens are in attendance)
  • Attend Links Israel trip and Connections Barmitzvah Israel trip
  • Attend Tuesday Educator meetings
  • Develop a great relationship with Seed Educators so they are brought into youth events and programmes as and when necessary and helpful.

General

  • The Youth Directors will be responsible for the recruitment and promotion of their programmes, including social media
  • Regular contact with youth
  • To Keep records charting attendance and engagement
  • Attending necessary training. Compliance with Seed’s policies and procedures, and to bring to
  • Senior Staff attention any Health & Safety requirements or concerns, and to raise any
  • Safeguarding issues with the DSL in line with the Seed Safeguarding policy.

  • Personality that ‘gets’ teens
  • Someone creative, dynamic, go-getting, organised and who can work with a team
  • Someone who can inspire, create passion, is motivated and can take responsibility
  • Passionate about Kiruv and committed to the aims of Seed, acting as an ambassador for the organisation
  • Excellent communication skills
