JOB PURPOSE:          

To support the Head of Safeguarding with advice and expertise to all representatives on matters of safeguarding. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

• To assist in ensuring that the United Synagogue provides the highest quality safeguarding services for children and young people and Adults at risk.

• To be a point of contact in providing support, advice and expertise to all representatives (staff and volunteers) on matters of safeguarding and assist on reported concerns and child protection referrals, supporting the Head of Safeguarding (who leads on engagement with the statutory authorities).

• To support the Head of Safeguarding concerning compliance with all aspects of relevant Safeguarding legislation, (including Working Together to Safeguard Children, Keeping Children Safe in Education and guidance from local Safeguarding Partners including the London Child Protection Protocols).

• To assist with the facilitation of Safeguarding induction and training for all staff including a two-or three-year strategic cycle of training (according to the requirements of their role). 

• To help the United Synagogue maintains meticulous safeguarding records, 

• To attend any relevant training.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

• Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding Children, Young People and adults at risk 

• Understanding of the legislative framework in relation to Safeguarding and Child Protection including in relation to early years settings 

• Thinks and acts strategically 

• Highly developed Planning / Organisational Skills 

• Good attention to detail 

• Able to work to deadlines and prioritise accordingly. 

• Strong communication skills 

• Ability to work with sensitivity and appropriate confidentiality 

• Experience of supporting people with a range of needs 

• Experience of working with volunteers and professionals 

• Understanding and living the values of the United Synagogue 

GENERIC DUTIES:

• Committed to the aims of the United Synagogue and act as an ambassador for the organisation.

• Comply with The United Synagogue’s policy and procedures and code of expectations.

• Bring to the attention of senior staff any health and safety requirements, which become obvious. In the event of any immediate danger, to take the appropriate action to reduce risk to physical danger to employees, members, contractors, volunteers, children, parents, visitors or staff.

• Work collaboratively with other colleagues across the organisation to ensure the United Synagogue can achieve its vision, mission, and strategy.

• Undertake appropriate training as requested by your line manager in conjunction with the Human Resources Department and be committed to own continuous professional development.

• Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Chief Executive or other designated senior staff/undertaking such other duties that occasionally fall within the purpose of the post.

• Maintaining high levels of discretion and confidentiality at all times
