Hours: 5hrs a week.

The Science department is an integral part of the Gateways charity. Two Science lessons will take place weekly for GCSE students for a maximum of six students per class.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

● Prepare equipment and materials for demonstration purposes or for use by teaching staff and pupils in the lead-up to each class

● Organise storage of equipment, apparatus and other resources in line with health and safety regulations.

● Carry out maintenance and basic first-line repair of science equipment, if necessary recommending repairs by outside contractors or replacement to the Science teacher

● Maintain stock levels of apparatus and resources notifying the Science teacher of any shortfalls.

● Ensure that all equipment and laboratories are cleaned and cleared after use, including chemical spillages

● Under the direction of the Science teacher, ensure safe storage and use of the laboratory equipment in line with Health & Safety regulations

● Support teaching staff in lesson delivery by assisting or demonstrating a practical

● This job description allocates duties and responsibilities but does not direct the amount of time spent on carrying them out, and no part of it may be so construed.

● Oversee the work of the Examinations Officer ensuring that all JCQ standards are met, as per the regulations in force at the time. If the exam officer is unable to fulfil their duties due to absence, the head of education will be responsible for covering their duties

● Share responsibility for ensuring HUBMIS (student management information system) is updated and monitored on a day-to-day basis related to all educational data

• Knowledge and experience of working within a science environment

• An ability to organise and prioritise your workload to meet deadlines

• Attention to detail and accuracy

• Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

• A flexible attitude and willingness to contribute constructively towards the team
