JOB PURPOSE:

Welwyn Garden City – Hatfield is a vibrant, modern orthodox community with an inspiring and inclusive leadership in the heart of Hertfordshire. The purpose of this role will involve teaching the children about Jewish life and festivals providing fun and engaging lessons to the children aged 5-11. 

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher to run a new Cheder programme in the Welwyn-Hatfield Community. The role will involve teaching the children about Jewish life and festivals. The lessons should be fun and engaging and provide the children, aged 5-11 with a good understanding and knowledge of Jewish life. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Jewish education and who will be able to provide a mixed-age class of children with an enriching experience for all. There will be a wide range of pre-existing Jewish knowledge amongst the class so the teacher should bear this in mind and tailor the classes to reach all levels of education. You will need a good level of Jewish knowledge as well as relevant teaching or youth work experience. The ability to work effectively with children of different ages, utilise different levels of knowledge among pupils to your advantage, is essential, as well as empathy, confidence, creativity, flexibility, diligence whilst maintaining a high level of personal integrity and above all, a sense of fun. 

KEY TASK

• To teach the children about Jewish life and Chagim in a fun and engaging way. 

• To educate the class in a way that offers an enlightening, enjoyable and stimulating experience within a safe environment. 

• To inspire and motivate the pupils of our Cheder by providing creative, dynamic, and high-quality lessons according to our curriculum.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES   

• To maintain enthusiasm and good conduct amongst the children.

• To produce and deliver exciting weekly lesson plans including resources required, prior to each lesson in good time for review and discussion.

• To participate in professional development, inset days and training workshops with the Heads of Education for the Welwyn-Hatfield Jewish community, and Hatfield Programming Executive. These may take place outside of normal working hours and will be held over Zoom or Google Meet.

• To communicate effectively, sensitively, and professionally to the children in the Cheder. Furthermore, you may have to discuss progress or concerns to parents or carers regarding their child. 

• Assist with and participate in general educational activities, programmes, and outings as appropriate. 

• Keep up to date clear attendance and work records, available for review at any time, and to provide a report on each child’s progress at the end of each academic year. 

• Arrive promptly at least 30 minutes before the start of Cheder and set up the classroom prior to the children arriving. Ensure your supplies are stored in an orderly manner and ordered appropriately through the Hatfield Programming Executive
