Community Support and Programme Coordinator- Jewish Care

This is a new position within Michael Sobell Community Centre, working with the Centre Manager, Day Services Programme Coordinator and Community Programme Development to deliver  a community programme to both current and future service users, and working with current and future partnership organisations involved within the centre.

The post holder will be expected to outreach into the community for building relationships, partnerships, programme development and the promotion and awareness of the centre.
The post holder will be expected to work in conjunction with the Senior staff team in order to find best care solutions for MSJCC members and their families
This post is fixed term until 31st March 2020. The hours of work will be 36.25 per week worked Monday to Friday with occasional evenings and weekends. The above hours of service are subjected to change in accordance with need of service users.

The role of the Community Support and Programme Coordinator is to:
  • Plan to maximise the opportunities for working with all community groups both on Jewish care premises and those of other organisations.
  • Work in partnership with individuals, carers and relevant voluntary and statutory resources to provide community support, that enables people referred to the service to reduce risk to themselves or others and to improve their quality of life
  • Plan, create and deliver recreation, leisure, learning and well-being programmes with the Community Programme Development
  • To monitor and engage with current and future users, including their lay leaders for the benefit of the community
  • To ensure the smooth running and delivery of all the community services programme including event management.
  • To supervise and lead and coordinate the afternoon, evening and weekend programme based on needs analysis.
  • To coordinate and supervise a team of volunteers/trainers and facilitators in the delivery of the programme
Your role will be:
  • To manage a caseload of MSJCC members including assessment, care planning where required and making appropriate referrals in line with level of need.
  • To engage effectively through working in partnership with people who use the service to promote the independence, choice and dignity of individuals and families and to achieve their desire outcome, in accordance with their physical, emotional and cultural needs
  • To recognise discrimination by individuals and organisations and the power of the professional role, in order to prevent abuse and neglect
  • To use appropriate assessment frameworks and record information accurately and consult with people effectively, in order to meet their health and social care needs  
  • To engage pro-actively with colleagues from internal and external resources in order to identify and support the needs of service users and communities
  • To work with volunteers who support people using the service and their carers to ensure they deliver a high-quality service  
  • To review and amend Jewish Care’s Day Centre attendance policy and procedure to ensure it reflects the changing needs of it’s customer cohort journey throughout Jewish Care
  • Efficiently and effectively plan, organise and deliver MSJCCs regular community programme 
  • Take a lead role and collaborate with relevant colleagues to deliver MSJCCs community events 
  • Collaborate with relevant colleagues to deliver MSJCC’s community marketing materials to support the profile of the community event schedule.
  • Monitor attendance on programmes and prepare reports for evaluation purposes
  • In collaboration with the Centre Manager, colleagues, volunteers and customers, plan an ongoing schedule of research to ascertain need for community service initiatives, responding appropriately as agreed with the Centre Manager. To coordinate, support and supervise a team of volunteers/trainers and facilitators in the delivery of the programme
  • To work alongside relevant colleagues to engage with various organisations to deliver recreational and leisure programmes either in partnership or via room rental to agreed standards. To ensure that planned activities and programmes are suitably resourced and budgeted for.
  • To ensure that hazardous substances are used and stored according to health and safety requirements and to agreed standards, including using identified risk assessments. 
  • To be responsible for their day to day administrative tasks, completing relevant documentation and maintaining up-to-date filing systems in conjunction with the Day Services Programme Coordinator and Senior Administrator to agreed standards.
  • Perform other related duties as required by community centre manager to ensure needs are met.
You will need:
  • Experience in delivering support or advisory services
  • Experience working with adults in a social care context
  • Experience of community and/or group work 
  • Experience of working within the Jewish Community
  • Experience of working in the field of programme/event organising
  • Experience of programme planning and coordination
  • Experience of administration and evaluation of recreational and leisure programmes
  • Experience of working and developing partnership organisations
  • Clean UK driving licence, and access to car (insured for business use)
  • Understanding of the Jewish community
  • Working in a Jewish environment
