Samantha Norman, mum of two from Finchley

After being out of work for about three months and furiously sending off my CV and applications for various jobs without hearing very much back, a friend suggested a  CV writing and interview technique workshop at Work Avenue.

Thankfully I ignored my initial reaction which was “I’m 43 years old; I have a CV, I know how to complete a job application – what could I possibly learn from this kind of course?!”

The course which was run by Yael Solomons was both informative and inspirational!  Yael was so supportive and professional and ensured that the content of the course was both relevant and easy to absorb.

I was absolutely amazed at the amount of new information I learnt that day – it was so useful to have the opportunity of being brought right up-to-date with current trends and advice together with priceless do’s and don’ts when it comes to applying for jobs.

I rushed home that evening and totally re-wrote my CV, using the helpful phrases and adjectives that Yael had presented to us during the course.

Two weeks later, I was preparing for interviews.  A week later, I’d secured a job.

Thank you Work Avenue for your incredible insight and help!

Eli Schryer, Founder of Golden Legacy Tours

At the age of 23 I moved to London from Eastern Europe with my wife and faced new challenges in trying to find work. I turned to Work Avenue and with their guidance, managed to secure a job at a local company taking community and school groups on trips to Poland.  But following the company’s relocation to Israel I found myself on the hunt for a job once again.

On this occasion, when meeting with Work Avenue for advice, we decided that I had all the knowledge and experience I needed to set up my own company offering trips to Eastern Europe. I was fortunate to be offered a partnership opportunity with the Travelink Group Ltd; their advice and support has really enabled my business to grow.

The support I received from Work Avenue has made me feel safe – they provide me with an office to run my business from and offer me advice when needed. I owe Work Avenue so much.

Last year Work Avenue helped me get a fundraising internship with Norwood which was followed by a maternity cover contract as a Trust Fundraiser.  I just wanted to express my gratitude again to the Work Avenue team for helping me realise what I wanted to do and for giving me a head start in my career within the charity sector.

My contract with Norwood finished a couple of months ago and I am now working as a Major Supporters Officer at the British Lung Foundation, a position that I wouldn’t have been able to secure without your support.

So thank you again and I hope you continue the amazing work that you do.
