Who we are

Jami is the Jewish community’s mental health charity that supports young people and adults whose mental illness and distress makes everyday life a struggle. Head Room is Jami’s social enterprise café, where we offer much more than just

coffee and great food. It is a community hub that provides free daily groups and activities, mental health support, education and connection to everyone in the local community.

The role

We are looking for a passionate and empathetic barista to join Head Room’s friendly food and beverage team. All our staff are strong mental health advocates and enjoy being part of our vibrant community hub.

No barista experience is needed as full training will be provided. This role would suit someone with an interest in social care and who is keen to be part of a supportive team providing great customer experience in an informal service setting.

Responsibilities

• Welcoming and serving each customer with warmth, respect and kindness.

• Building positive relationships with customers.

• Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks and bar food.

• Sharing information about Jami and the work that we do in the community.

• Cleaning and sanitising work areas, utensils, and equipment.

• Following all food safety and health safety requirements.

• Serving customers and taking orders.

• Organising and keeping on top of stock levels.

• Receiving and processing customer payments.

• Opening and closing the café.

• Attending training related to food and drink as well as mental health.

Your background

• Comfortable working in busy environments where multitasking and juggling is needed.

• Able to use your initiative and be proactive in keeping the café clean and organised and deliver great service.

• Basic knowledge of health & safety, food safety legislation and a willingness to learn more.

• Happy to get involved where needed.

• Experience and knowledge of the Jewish community and Kashrut laws (desirable but not essential)
