Marketing & Communications Manager (maternity contract)- JAMI

Jami are looking to recruit a highly effective communicator who will be responsible for the management of the marketing and communications programme in print and online, including our fundraising communications. They will also manage the relationships with third parties including press, key influencers, creative and digital agencies, and other organisations.


Marketing Communications Management 
•    To manage and deliver all external communications from Jami as well as any additional third party communications identified as being necessary to grow the donor base, maintain the existing one and enhance supporter/community relationships. 
•    Work with the Senior Management and Board of Trustees to plan detailed calendar of activities and support budgeting of fundraising and marketing income and expenditure.
•    Hold responsibility for monitoring the forward plans for development ensuring integration of communications into the long term strategic plan. 
•    Managing relationship with creative agency and other suppliers ensuring project plans are maintained and work is delivered on time.
•    Holding responsibility for developing and monitoring the project plan for each scheduled piece of direct marketing (including at least two fundraising appeals and two supporter newsletters annually) including the expenditure and expected return-on-investment
•    Working to agreed income, expenditure and timeframe targets, and other performance measures, reporting on variance and recommending action.
•    Developing understanding of different donor and supporter segments and tailoring relevant communications messages to them through the most appropriate channels both online and offline.
•    Evaluating each mailing, preparing analysis for reports and applying learnings.

Comms Planning and Development
•    Managing Jami and other (Head Room Café, Head On) websites content and functionality.
•    Building compelling web content and managing website via the content management system and e-shots from templates. Managing e-marketing content and schedules.
•    Development and scheduling of planned and reactive social media posts and interactions on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for Jami pages and other subsidiary brands.
•    Monitor need for and usage of general Jami materials internally and externally. Ensure all content is relevant, messaging is consistent and up to date. 
•    Identify needs for new materials across all channels working with colleagues across the organisation to secure content, writing and ensuring tone of voice and messaging are consistent.
•    Work with Events Manager, Community Fundraiser and Head Room Recovery Education, and Social Enterprise teams to develop appropriate events materials including invitations, booking forms and promotional items.
•    Work with Head Room Recovery Education team to develop course prospectus and promotion schedule across all channels.
•    Develop and regularly update Jami’s suite of letter templates 
•    Ensure all materials adhere to Jami brand guidelines and best practise.
•    Ensure compliance with GDPR, Data Protection, Fundraising Regulator guidance and any other bodies as required.

•    Ensuring messages from across the organisation are focussed and consistently delivered across all channels.
•    Build and maintain relationships with relevant communal and local publications securing coverage to key events and on relevant topics across the media and in synagogue magazines.
•    Oversee and draft messages delivered through key Jami events - via speeches, films, materials and other materials.
•    Drafting press releases on both a proactive and reactive basis to Jami and other mental health/social care issues.
•    Securing interviews, comment pieces, articles and speaker slots for Jami management team through appropriate media.
•    Drafting articles, comment pieces, conducting interviews with staff and service users, writing copy for use across a number of channels including direct marketing, core literature items and online.

Database, administration and protection
This will involve: 
•    Working with Database and Income Manager to ensure donor communications – mailings, eshots etc - are added to records and data captured is done so with appropriate GDPR/data protection statements in place.
•    Attend to donor database queries from donors resulting from marketing communications;
•    Work with Fundraising and marketing colleagues to prepare follow up letters post events to donors with outstanding pledges within agreed timescales.
•    Work with the Database and Income Manager to ensure the integrity of any information being transferred from spreadsheets to our database
•    Ensure all mailing lists and groups are added on to the database and income from Fundraising and Marketing initiatives is accurately recorded for analysis purposes.

Cross Functional Relationships
•    Work with the wider Fundraising and Marketing team to devise and implement effective Marketing and PR strategies to promote Jami events to target audiences across all comms channels.
•    Communicate and build relationships with the other departments including Finance, Services, Social Enterprise and Operations.
•    Work with services to ensure service user engagement in the development of key initiatives for example new campaign messages.
•    Work with Services and Service Users to keep up to date knowledge of our service delivery and achievements, gaining insights into the lives of those we support and securing consent to utilise case studies to promote Jami’s work
•    To contribute effectively and positively to organisation-wide events, projects and initiatives. 
•    This will involve: 
o    Working collaboratively with Jami colleagues as required 
o    Undertake other duties as required and requested by your Line Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION (all criteria essential unless stated otherwise)

Training & Qualifications    
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of marketing processes and procedures, including direct marketing
  • Above average knowledge of PR and external communications channels
  • Advanced Word, PowerPoint, skills    
  • Relevant fundraising qualification (desirable)
  • Relevant marketing qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of ThankQ and or Raisers Edge database (desirable)
  • PR and Event Marketing experience (desirable)
  • Proven experience in communications planning and implementation
  • Proven experience in managing income and expenditure budgets
  • Ability to draft and proofread compelling copy. Demonstrable high level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Good level of understanding of the relationship between supporter and organisation
  • Highly articulate and able to converse with a wide range of people and audiences
  • Working as part of a multi-functional team
  • A demonstrable interest and understanding of fundraising (desirable)
  • Experience in developing websites (WordPress), utilising CMS, email templates and social media (desirable)
  • Working with volunteers (desirable)
  • Working with external creative agencies and designers (desirable)
