Friends of the Sick (Chevrat Bikkur Cholim) (FOS)  is a registered charity whose purpose is to provide support workers to enable elderly or incapacitated people in the Jewish community to carry on leading their life in the comfort and security of their own homes.  
We are seeking an Administrative and Fundraising Assistant to lead on the generation of income, with a particular focus on charitable trusts and foundations, to support running costs and new projects. He/she will also be expected to raise the profile of FOS and to attract a new generation of donors within the Jewish community. The right candidate will be a strong communicator who can bring applications and proposals to life with compelling narrative to demonstrate FOS’s case to a range of funders.  

Main Role and Priority Responsibilities

•    Responsible for leading on the development and growth of FOS’s income from charitable trusts and foundations into a major source of funding for the Charity as well as providing administrative support to the General Secretary and raising the Charity’s profile in the Jewish community
•    Generating and securing income from a diverse range of grant-making and charitable trusts to support our identified priorities
•    Writing and submitting high-quality targeted funding applications in a form and style which matches FOS’s objectives with the funders’ requirements
•    Identifying opportunities for FOS to generate income, especially researching and targeting individual trusts and foundations
•    Developing and capitalising on long-term relationships with major trusts and foundations to secure ongoing additional funding
•    Managing current grants, ensuring contractual requirements are met and donors remain supportive and engaged
•    Keeping a database showing progress with applications and projects requiring funding
•    Feeding back on progress against set targets and budgets to the Trustees and General Secretary
•    Maintaining a watching brief on developments in fundraising and third sector funding
•    Developing and putting in place a strategy to increase the profile of FOS among younger donors in the Jewish community 
•    Providing administrative support to the General Secretary as and when appropriate.  

Person Specification

Educational/Professional Qualifications:
•    Degree level education or equivalent experience (D)
•    A strong track record of working within charitable fundraising  (D)
•    Experience of generating significant income from charitable trusts, foundations and related funders (D)
•    Understanding of health and social care (D)
•    Understanding of the charity sector (E)
•    Knowledge of administrative procedures for charities (D)
•    Knowledge of accounting software such as Sage Line 50 (D)
•    Experience using the thankQ database or similar charity CRMs (D)
•    Experience of using social media for marketing and fundraising objectives (D)
Skills and abilities:
•    Excellent written and spoken communication skills (E)
•    Financially numerate with experience of creating budgets for inclusion in bids (D)
•    Self-motivator (E)
•    Ability to work as part of a small team (E)
•    Strong IT Skills (E).
•    Willingness occasionally to work extra hours to ensure the office is manned when the General Secretary is away.
