Finance Director- JW3

We are seeking an accomplished and self-motivated professional accountant with a minimum of 5 years’ post-qualifying senior experience at Financial Controller/Finance Director level or equivalent, and belonging to one of UK’s recognised professional accountancy bodies. Preferably with relevant experience of working with charities. As head of JW3’s Finance Team, you should have a proven track record in forging positive, effective relationships within organisations, and committed to achieving high standards through a pro-active management approach. You will provide leadership in the Finance function in delivering an efficient service across the whole JW3 operation in order to help fulfil JW3’s Vision and Mission.

Direct Reports: Finance team – currently 3f/t + 1p/t
External Contacts: Professional services, including: Banks, Accountants, Funding bodies, Auditors, Investment Partners, Charity Commission, Companies House, HMRC, Payroll Bureau.

• To ensure effective financial planning, monitoring and reporting to enhance the decision making process of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Trading Board of non-exec Directors, and the Trustees. To ensure the JW3 Trust and its subsidiaries comply with all statutory and external requirements and regulations.
• To manage the Finance Team, ensuring all financial systems and controls are fit for purpose, and also to properly account for all donations and funds raised so as to comply with the Charity Commission’s acceptable Statements of Recommended Practice (SORPs)
• To lead strategic financial planning processes and develop policy and best practice frameworks across range of administrative areas including financial planning and budgeting.
• To be responsible for the implementation and management of robust financial controls and processes across the organisation to ensure appropriate monitoring of all income and expenditure; recording and accurate reporting of all JW3 entities’ assets, liabilities and management information; and setting and management of annual budgets.
• As a senior leader in the organisation and a member of the SLT, be a key player in creating the culture required to maintain and further develop JW3’s healthy financial and administrative wellbeing.

• To be responsible for all aspects of all finance functions across JW3 Trust and associated entities, including management information and accounts, and to prepare proper accounting records and financial statements for the annual statutory audit.
• To be responsible for JW3’s funds position, reporting and monitoring, and to ensure proper and accurate cash projections are regularly prepared on an ongoing basis, so as to ensure the continued viability of JW3.
• To be responsible for year-round organisational budgeting and re-forecasts, so as to continually monitor and report proper and accurate monthly management information to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), Trading and Trust Boards.
• To professionally and efficiently manage the Finance Team to ensure all income and expenditure is properly captured and accounted for; and that all due payments are properly made in a timely and orderly fashion, so as to preserve the reputation of JW3 as a responsible and creditable organisation.
• Lead and coordinate the Company’s financial planning processes, including consolidation of departmental budgets into the Company’s annual operating and capital plans.
• Monitor, report and provide insightful commentary on the monthly performance against budget of all departments of JW3; work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team to address areas which are under-performing.
• Provide leadership to the Finance function and support and inspire the Finance team.
• Undertake a review of current financial systems to ensure all accounting systems are fit for purpose and effectively implemented and maintained.
• Take responsibility for strategic control and allocation of the financial resources of JW3 Trust and all entities; maintain reserves and investment policies and oversee management of any funds; set and communicate financial limitation standards for Directors and the SLT.
• Supply up-to-date, accurate and appropriate financial data and commentary to the CEO & SLT, Trading Board, Trust Board, the Charity Commission, Accountants/Auditors, Funders and others on a regular basis and on request as required.
• Work with external auditors to deliver timely and accurate year end accounts; coordinate the publication of annual Accounts with appropriate commentary and communicate results with Board and SLT
• Ensure efficient delivery by the Finance team of the monthly and annual financial and management reports to the SLT, non-Exec Directors and Trustees
• Work closely with the Finance team to ensure compliance with relevant statutory reporting and financial administration obligations arising from the Company’s charitable status
• Work closely with the Finance Team to ensure compliance with all tax and VAT requirements for the Group structure
• Oversee JW3’s annual insurance renewal process; maintain relationship with broker and ensure claims record, asset valuations and levels of insurance cover are regularly reviewed.
• Act as Company Secretary for all JW3 legal entities


Promoting and Representing JW3
• Protect and enhance the reputation of JW3, presenting the organisation in an appropriate and professional manner to stakeholders.
• Act as an advocate for the impact of JW3’s work where appropriate.
• Build appropriate relationships with relevant organisations to raise JW3’s positive profile.
• Sit on the Senior Leadership Team, participating in regular SLT management meetings.

Essential Skills and Experience
• At least 5 years’ post qualifying experience at Financial Controller, Finance Director or equivalent level.
• Strong Excel skills, particularly in extraction of information from the SAGE system via ODBC link or other Database methods, for the purpose of reporting management information on linked Excel files.
• Experience of producing financial reports, budgets and information for funders, donors and foundations, and experience of preparing and monitoring complex budgets.
• Ability to produce reports for senior management and board level review and analysis and explanation of variances, and to attend Board meetings and confidently report and interpret information to relevant Board members
• Experience of charity and company financial systems, procedures and reporting in compliance with SORPs, GAAPs and IFRS.
• Experience of leading on organisational budget preparation, audit file preparation, provision of information to HMRC, and experience of liaising with auditors, banks and other financial institutions.

NB: Full relevant membership of ICAEW/ACCA/CIMA strongly desirable

• SAGE Line 50 or higher SAGE accounting package experience.
• Senior finance role in a relevantly comparable arts/culture organisation or venue.
• Previous experience in a Jewish community organisation – professionally or in a voluntary capacity
