Communications & Marketing Officer - ORT UK

Objective:
To manage ORT UK’s communications and to raise the profile of ORT UK in the wider community.
The role is part time: 2-3 days per week.

Responsibilities:

Develop and manage policies and procedures that support communications at ORT UK
1. Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategy in ORT UK across its media, digital and marketing campaigns in order to build engagement in the Jewish community producing regular social media output and content
2. Develop the structures, systems and procedures for successful communications, including statistical monitoring and analysis
3. To write relevant articles for the Jewish press and Synagogue publications
4. To write and produce ORT UK newsletters, legacy campaign materials and annual review
5. To work on ORT UK’s awareness, fundraising and membership campaigns including liaising with printers, proofreading and disseminating in both printed and electronic forms
6. To ensure development of ORT UK’s online presence and maintain ORT UK’s website, content management and blogs
7. To have a watching brief on social media to ensure systematic responses, events posting in real time, and timely posting of major sector developments
8. To stay abreast of latest developments in media, communications and social media and ensure these are used to ORT UK’s advantage
9. To network with other agencies and professionals to raise ORT UK’s profile
10. To develop communications across ORT UK’s range of stakeholders
11. To liaise with the press and to develop press releases in liaison with the Chief Executive
12. Assist with events including attending, administration, publicity and speakers
General
13. Carry out all duties in full adherence to all ORT UK policies and procedures
14. Carry out any other duties appropriate to the post as appropriately requested by the Chief Executive or ORT UK Chairman

Person Specification: (all essential unless specified)

Experience
  • Experience of managing and developing effective and responsive social media accounts
  • Experience of working with the press and of writing press releases (desirable)
  • Experience of writing, producing and distributing articles, blogs, newsletters etc
  • Experience of record keeping and maintaining administrative systems and database (desirable)
  • Experience of website building, development and maintenance
Knowledge and Understanding
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance that social media plays in the Third Sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and data protection issues
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Jewish community in Britain (desirable)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the importance of STEM and Jewish education (desirable)
Skills and Abilities
  • An in-depth knowledge, understanding of and proficiency on social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn as well as emerging platforms, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios
  • Knowledge, understanding of and proficiency in using Photoshop and other design programmes eg. Autodesk Pixlr, Aviary, Paint.net (desirable)
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and present information clearly, concisely, accurately and in ways that promote understanding
  • Ability to use a range of communication styles and techniques to maintain people’s interest and attention and keep people informed of plans and developments
  • Ability to juggle multiple demands without losing focus or energy
  • Ability to keep accurate statistical and monitoring information
  • Ability to work on own initiative, with limited direction and to be self-servicing and maintain own administrative records
  • Good inter-personal skills with an ability to build positive working relationships, work as part of a team, influence and network with a wide range of people at all levels
  • Ability to undertake work outside of contracted working hours
