Administrative Assistant- Western Marble Arch Synagogue

The Administrative Assistant is employed to assist the Administrator in all aspects of the operation and the organisational activities of the Western Marble Arch Synagogue.
This is a broad, multifaceted role ensuring that the day-to-day administration of the Synagogue runs smoothly and all the needs of its members are met. Good management and communication/liaison skills are essential together with a good knowledge of Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Sage and use of a database would be an advantage.
On a day to day basis the Administrative Assistant reports to the Administrator.
You would be expected to perform all duties which may be required in the role of Administrative Assistant comprising general administration within the Synagogue office, keeping records on the database, Sage entry, weekly newsletter and call up sheets, keeping membership records as well as any other tasks that will be required of you.
The Person Specification
The Administrative Assistant must have empathy for the objectives of the synagogue and demonstrable evidence of:
  • at least 3 years experience of general office administration, ideally in a client facing environment
  • highly developed interpersonal skills
  • the ability to work well under pressure
  • the ability to be sympathetic and diplomatic at all times
  • excellent organisational ability
  • an eye for detail and be able to troubleshoot
  • excellent IT skills, across the range of the Microsoft suite of software and bespoke databases
  • The ability to manage and update the Website
  • Good knowledge of Social Media
 In addition it would be desirable for the successful candidate to demonstrate:
  • A good understanding of the British Jewish Community and its establishments
  • An in-depth understanding of the structure of the United Synagogue
  • Experience of working to a structure of honorary officers and a Board.
  • A working knowledge of Sage accounting (Line 50)
Time Commitment
This is a full time role with a flexible approach to 37.5 hours a week. You will be expected to work 3 Sundays out of 4.  You will be entitled to 20 days holiday a year plus Jewish Holidays and statutory holidays.
