Finchley-based Work Avenue, established in 2006 to empower people to run their own businesses, opened its first business hub, We Hub, in February 2016 and is celebrating its first anniversary. We’ve been talking to Work Avenue’s CEO Shraga Zaltzman.
How has the first year panned out?
We launched with 15 members and now we have 126 members.
During 2016 Work Avenue helped 471 businesses through one-to-one business advice meetings, workshops, and advice and networking events.
To date, Work Avenue has placed 349 people into employment.
Tell us about the diversity of your programmes.
We Hub comprises a mixture of facilities designed to encourage interaction between members, building a network and creating opportunities in areas of employment and self-employment.
We Hub also has shared workspace for networking, mentoring, meetings and business development. Last October, Work Avenue’s Start-Up Central – created in collaboration with Google’s Digital Garage – was attended by more than 200 businesses , freelancers and entrepreneurs, where they received invaluable advice on how to grow their businesses online at sessions by representatives from Digital Garage, Barclays Bank and Work Avenue.
And what about the popular employment events?
These have been fantastically successful with more than 1,200 people attending to date. The fifth annual Women in the Workplace event, hosted in November last year, welcomed 120 delegates who were given advice by a line-up of inspiring women and experts in their professional fields on various workplace topics, including how to dress for success, use transferable skills and turn an idea into a business.
What has been the key to WE’s phenomenal growth?
Since founding Work Avenue, we have developed a simple model that delivers results.
We Hub was a natural continuation of our work, supporting those that need a gentle push into employment and nurturing business into sustainable entities.
We listen to each individual and create a plan that makes sense for them.
I’m extremely proud of everything we have achieved so far and look forward to building upon these achievements, supported by an excellent team.
